Frequently Asked Questions

Is the show a Musical?

No. In the original NYC production,  the actors played instruments to serve as transition music and to add to the environment. While there can be musical numbers within the show, it is not a traditional musical. The show can be staged with OR without live music.

Do you provide music for the show along with the rights?

Not necessarily. You are welcome to use the music from the original production if you wish (we can provide you with a cd or the basic chords/notes), but you can also feel free to compose your own music based on the instruments your actors can play proficiently, or use no live music.

Are the postings really from Craigslist?

Absolutely.  Every single posting in each version of the show came directly from Craigslist.org. Some of the posts have been cut or sliced together, but no posts were added or created by the playwrights.

Is Kidnapped By Craigslist copyrighted?

Yes. It was copyrighted in February of 2008. The copyright applies to ALL versions of the script. Publishing pending.

Which cities currently have their own scripts?

As of November 2008, New York, Los Angeles and Austin have their own scripts based on postings from those cities.

If I want to produce the show in my city, do I have to pay for a new script to be written that is based on my city?

No. There is a general script that can be produced in any city and contains postings from Craigslist sites in cities all over the country.
